Transitioning Your Skin into Fall

Here in the Northwest, our nights are getting cooler and there’s a new crisp in the air that is undeniable (my friends in San Diego hate when I tell them that we’re already experiencing sweater weather, ha). It’s really hard to believe that the first day fall is only three weeks away. This has been such a weird, tough year, but I hope you’ll take a moment with me to find joy in the small, beautiful things all around us. For me, ushering in the fall is so special and there’s a certain nostalgia attached to it that reminds me to pause and take a deep breath.

With a colder season comes inevitable changes to our skin. Depending on the climate you live in, you may notice your skin feeling drier and looking more dull. This is definitely the time to work more moisture into your routine. Below are my top tips and product recommendations for keeping your skin glowy into the fall and beyond!

Layer, layer, layer!

And I’m not talking about sweaters, although that’s fun, too. Sometimes on hot, balmy summer days I can get away with just using our Carrot Seed Serum and I don’t even need a moisturizer. This is not the case when it comes to cooler weather! Layering is so key to really locking in all the goodness from your botanical products. After cleansing and toning, immediately apply your serum and then quickly follow-up with your moisturizers. Lately I’ve been using our Blue Tansy Cream (I know, I know, but join the waitlist here!) all over my face and neck, and once it’s dry I add on a layer of Cocoa Eye Butter to my forehead and around my eyes (places that tend to be dry/show fine lines on my face).

Mask It Up

Masking more often with an ultra-hydrating mask like our Matcha Mask is crucial. This is an extra step that will benefit your skin all week long — and a mask like ours is so gentle that you could use it every night if you wanted to…and I know you want to. Bonus: it’s lightly exfoliating, but not over the top, and this is what you want for these colder months. Over-doing it with exfoliation will do more harm than good, especially when your skin is already more dry and vulnerable.

Add More Oil

Don’t forget that all of our products are multi-use and mixable! A few drops of our Black Spruce Body Oil can be added into our Coconut + Aloe Cleanser, Sandalwood Cream, Blue Tansy Cream, Cocoa Eye Butter, and Matcha Mask. If your skin is super dry, you definitely need more oil and this will do wonders for your face!

Nourish from the Inside-Out

Our skin is a direct reflection of what’s happening inside our bodies. Staying hydrated with herbal teas, warm bone broth, or a seasonal squash, carrot, or pumpkin soup will nourish and provide your body with skin-loving vitamins and nutrients.

And there you have it, friends! It really doesn’t have to be complicated when it comes to being intentional with your skin, and we’re hoping that our minimalist approach will continue to serve your skin through all the different seasons.
